What Is a PDO Thread Lift? What Austin Patients Should Know First

A PDO thread lift places dissolvable polydioxanone threads under the skin. Barbed threads grip the tissue and provide a modest lift; smooth threads stimulate collagen without lifting.

Polydioxanone is the same material used in surgical sutures and has been used in medicine for decades. The threads dissolve over several months while the collagen response continues.

Here is the part that decides whether this is right for you. Threads work on early, mild to moderate laxity. If you have heavy sagging, a thread lift will underwhelm you and a surgical facelift will do considerably more. Your nurse will tell you that rather than sell you threads.

Results typically last about 12 to 18 months, and this is not a no-downtime treatment. Expect some tightness, mild bruising and swelling, and most patients take a day or two before they are comfortable back in front of people.

Risks include bruising, swelling, dimpling or puckering of the skin, thread migration or extrusion, asymmetry and infection. Your nurse reviews all of these before you consent.

YOUR CARE TEAM

Meet Your Austin PDO Thread Lift Injector

Your threads are placed by Genniel, RN, a Clinical Aesthetic Nurse Injector at our East 6th Street clinic. She treats Austin patients through the week.

Thread placement is a mapping job, and vector and depth decide whether the result looks lifted or puckered. Genniel assesses how much laxity you actually have before recommending threads at all. A physician backs the clinical team.

PRODUCT OPTIONS

The Threads We Use for a Lift

Your nurse matches the thread type to your goal and face. Since threads dissolve over time, the result is gradual and natural.
JUVEDERM

Smooth, immediate volume

Juvederm is one of the most commonly used hyaluronic acid fillers for patients looking for smooth, natural volume and immediate results, with a gel consistency best suited for areas like the lips and cheeks. Patients searching for Juvederm Austin often want visible results right after treatment, with a finish that blends naturally into the skin.
RESTYLANE

Structure & precision

Restylane offers a slightly different approach within the same category, focusing more on structure and precision. Its formulations allow for more controlled placement, often used for the lines between the nose and mouth, under-eye hollows, and jawline definition. Patients exploring Restylane Austin treatments typically want targeted correction with natural movement.
SCULPTRA

Gradual collagen build

Sculptra stands apart from traditional fillers by working gradually rather than instantly. It is a collagen stimulator that rebuilds volume over time instead of adding it immediately. Patients considering Sculptra Austin treatments are usually looking for subtle, longer-lasting changes that develop over several weeks, ideal for overall facial rejuvenation.
If you are not sure which option suits your goals, your nurse injector walks you through every choice at your consultation, with no pressure to decide on the spot.

Frequently Asked

Frequently Asked Questions About A PDO Thread Lift in Austin

A PDO thread lift at InjectCo MedSpa Austin is priced at your consultation, because the cost depends on the area and how many threads your plan needs. A small brow lift costs less than a full jawline and neck plan. Your nurse builds a clear plan and gives you the full price before anything begins, with no hidden fees. You always know the cost before you decide.

A PDO thread lift usually lasts about 12 to 18 months. The threads themselves dissolve over a few months, but the collagen your body builds around them keeps the lift going longer. Results vary by patient and by the area treated. Many patients come back to refresh the result once the lift softens, and your nurse can help you plan a schedule.

PDO threads are made from polydioxanone, the same material used in surgical sutures for decades, and thread devices are FDA-cleared for soft tissue approximation and lifting. Cleared is not the same as approved, and it is worth knowing the difference.

Like any procedure, thread lifts carry risks: bruising, swelling, dimpling or puckering, thread migration or extrusion, asymmetry, and less commonly infection. At InjectCo Austin every treatment is placed by a licensed registered nurse under physician oversight, and your nurse reviews the full risk list with you before you consent.

Most patients feel only mild pressure or tugging during a PDO thread lift because we use a local numbing option first. You may feel some tightness or have small bruises for a few days after. The placement takes about 30 to 60 minutes. There is no long recovery like there is with a surgical facelift, and most people return to normal activity within a day or two.

A facelift is surgery that removes and tightens skin under anesthesia, with real recovery time and a longer-lasting result. A thread lift uses dissolvable threads to lift mild sagging with no surgery and little downtime, but the result is more subtle and lasts around 12 to 18 months. A thread lift is a step between filler and surgery. Your nurse will tell you honestly which fits your goal.

Botox is a wrinkle relaxer that softens the muscles behind expression lines on the upper face. Dermal filler is a gel that adds volume and structure to the mid and lower face. A thread lift is different from both, since it lifts sagging skin with threads. Many patients combine threads with filler or Botox in one plan so the result looks balanced and natural.

The jawline is one of the most common areas for a PDO thread lift. Barbed threads are placed to grip the tissue and lift a soft jawline toward a cleaner edge. It works best on mild to moderate laxity. If the jawline is heavy or the skin is significantly loose, threads will not deliver the change you want and your nurse will say so.

A PDO thread lift is worth it for patients with mild, early sagging who want a lift without surgery and are happy with a natural, gradual result. It costs less than a facelift and has little downtime, but it also gives a more subtle change and does not last as long. Your nurse sets clear expectations at your consultation so you can decide if it is the right choice for your goal.

A good candidate has mild to moderate laxity in the jawline, cheeks, brows or neck and wants some lift without surgery. Patients with heavy sagging usually get a considerably better result from a surgical facelift, and your nurse will tell you that honestly rather than place threads that will disappoint you. Expect a day or two of tightness and possible bruising, so this is not a zero-downtime treatment.

Important Safety Information

Treatment at InjectCo MedSpa Austin is performed by licensed registered nurses under physician supervision. PDO threads are FDA-cleared for soft tissue approximation. A thread lift is not a substitute for surgical facelift.

Known risks include swelling, bruising, tenderness, lumps or firm areas, and asymmetry. Rare but serious risks include vascular occlusion. Tell your provider about all medications, blood thinners and any previous treatment in the area.

Results vary between individuals depending on anatomy, the product selected and the amount placed. Threads dissolve over several months while stimulating collagen. Results are subtler and shorter-lived than surgery.

Individual results vary. This treatment may not be suitable for everyone. Consult your medical provider.
