A PDO thread lift places dissolvable polydioxanone threads under the skin. Barbed threads grip the tissue and provide a modest lift; smooth threads stimulate collagen without lifting.
Polydioxanone is the same material used in surgical sutures and has been used in medicine for decades. The threads dissolve over several months while the collagen response continues.
Here is the part that decides whether this is right for you. Threads work on early, mild to moderate laxity. If you have heavy sagging, a thread lift will underwhelm you and a surgical facelift will do considerably more. Your nurse will tell you that rather than sell you threads.
Results typically last about 12 to 18 months, and this is not a no-downtime treatment. Expect some tightness, mild bruising and swelling, and most patients take a day or two before they are comfortable back in front of people.
Risks include bruising, swelling, dimpling or puckering of the skin, thread migration or extrusion, asymmetry and infection. Your nurse reviews all of these before you consent.

A thread lift uses dissolvable threads to lift mild sagging with no surgery and little downtime, but the result is more subtle and lasts around 12 to 18 months. A thread lift is a step between filler and surgery. Your nurse will tell you honestly which fits your goal.
Botox is a wrinkle relaxer that softens the muscles behind expression lines on the upper face. Dermal filler is a gel that adds volume and structure to the mid and lower face. A thread lift is different from both, since it lifts sagging skin with threads. Many patients combine threads with filler or Botox in one plan so the result looks balanced and natural.
The jawline is one of the most common areas for a PDO thread lift. Barbed threads are placed to grip the tissue and lift a soft jawline toward a cleaner edge. It works best on mild to moderate laxity. If the jawline is heavy or the skin is significantly loose, threads will not deliver the change you want and your nurse will say so.
A PDO thread lift is worth it for patients with mild, early sagging who want a lift without surgery and are happy with a natural, gradual result. It costs less than a facelift and has little downtime, but it also gives a more subtle change and does not last as long. Your nurse sets clear expectations at your consultation so you can decide if it is the right choice for your goal.
A good candidate has mild to moderate laxity in the jawline, cheeks, brows or neck and wants some lift without surgery. Patients with heavy sagging usually get a considerably better result from a surgical facelift, and your nurse will tell you that honestly rather than place threads that will disappoint you. Expect a day or two of tightness and possible bruising, so this is not a zero-downtime treatment.
The most valuable part of a thread assessment is finding out whether you are actually a candidate. Plenty of people are told yes when the honest answer is that surgery would serve them better.
