Most patients come in knowing what they want to change, but that does not always mean the treatment they ask for is the treatment we recommend.

Someone may point to forehead lines and ask for Botox. Someone else may point to a fold or an area that has lost definition and ask for filler. We start by listening to the patient goal, then assessing what is actually creating the concern.

For neurotoxin treatments, we watch the face at rest and in motion. We look at brow position, forehead movement, frown strength and how the eye area moves before deciding where treatment belongs.

For filler, we look at proportion, symmetry, volume loss and structural support rather than automatically putting product into the line the patient points to.

We would rather start conservatively and reassess than use more units or product than the anatomy needs. And sometimes the safest or most honest recommendation is not to treat that day.

Our job is not to use the most product possible. It is to choose an appropriate treatment for the patient anatomy, medical history and goals, then explain the reasoning before treatment begins.

Different medical aesthetic treatments have different safety profiles. Botox, dermal fillers, lasers and prescription medical programs should not be described as though they carry the same risks.

Neurotoxins

Common temporary effects can include injection site discomfort, bruising, swelling, headache, temporary asymmetry, and temporary weakness of nearby treated muscles. Product specific contraindications and warnings are discussed before treatment. Approved uses and warnings for each product are listed in Drugs@FDA.

Botulinum toxin products have product specific formulations and dosing units, and their units are not directly interchangeable. Product selection may consider anatomy, muscle activity, treatment area, prior experience, previous treatment response and patient goals.

Dermal fillers

Common temporary effects may include swelling, bruising, tenderness and redness.

A rare but serious complication is unintended injection of dermal filler into a blood vessel. This can interrupt blood flow and may lead to tissue damage. Rare reported complications include vision abnormalities, blindness and stroke. The FDA publishes patient guidance on dermal fillers.

InjectCo keeps hyaluronidase available for clinically appropriate management of hyaluronic acid filler. Hyaluronidase does not dissolve non hyaluronic acid products such as Sculptra or Radiesse.

Laser treatments

Potential risks may include redness, irritation, burns and pigment changes. Skin assessment and patient selection matter, and settings are chosen for your skin type.

What happens if you have a concern after treatment?

Patients receive treatment specific aftercare instructions and information about when to contact the clinic. If you experience an unexpected or worsening reaction, contact InjectCo so the clinical team can determine what evaluation is appropriate.

After filler, unusual or increasing pain, unexpected skin color changes, or visual symptoms require prompt assessment and may require emergency medical care. Different treatments have different warning signs, and your clinician reviews the relevant ones before you leave.

A consultation does not automatically mean a medical aesthetic procedure will be performed that day. Depending on the treatment, your clinician may recommend postponing or declining care because of factors such as:

• Active infection or inflammation
• Pregnancy or breastfeeding where relevant
• Medication or medical history concerns
• Prior adverse reactions
• Recent procedures that may affect treatment safety
• Anatomy that makes the requested treatment inappropriate
• Expectations that the treatment cannot realistically achieve

The exact contraindications differ between neurotoxins, fillers, laser treatments, skin procedures and prescription medical programs. Your clinician reviews the risks and candidacy criteria that apply to the specific treatment before you consent.

Texas treats nonsurgical cosmetic injection of medications or substances as a medical act. Under applicable rules, these procedures may be delegated within defined requirements for clinician training, written protocols, patient evaluation and physician oversight. The Texas Medical Board publishes the rules that govern delegated nonsurgical medical cosmetic procedures.

Your first visit runs the same way every time.

You complete a medical history form covering conditions, medications, allergies and previous aesthetic treatments.
A registered nurse assesses the areas you are concerned about, at rest and in movement.
She tells you what she would recommend, what she would not, and why.
You are given the price for that specific plan before anything is drawn up.
You review the benefits, limitations and risks for the treatment being proposed, then give written consent.
Treatment is performed, or rescheduled if the assessment says waiting is safer.
You leave with written aftercare instructions for the treatment you had and a number to call with questions.

You can stop at any step. A consultation does not commit you to treatment.

Aftercare depends on what you had done, so you are given written instructions specific to your treatment before you leave. General points your clinician covers include how long to stay upright after a neurotoxin treatment, when you can return to exercise, how to manage swelling or bruising, what is normal in the first few days, and which symptoms mean you should contact the clinic rather than wait. Approved product information and warnings for each product are published by the FDA, and your clinician points you to the one that applies to your treatment.
