When someone asks me whether they need a half syringe or a full syringe, I do not decide from the price option alone. I first ask what they actually want to change.
One patient may want a little more border definition without much added volume. Another may want more body through the lip. Someone else may mostly notice asymmetry.
I also look at what is already there. If someone has previous filler, I need to understand how it is sitting before I decide whether adding more makes sense.
That is why a half syringe is not automatically the "natural" option, and a full syringe is not automatically dramatic. They are amounts. The shape comes from the patient's starting anatomy, the goal, the product we choose and how much change the tissue can reasonably support.
Sometimes the plan is a half syringe. Sometimes a full syringe makes more sense. Sometimes the better plan is to wait, dissolve existing HA filler first, or leave the lips alone.

Lip filler is a gel made mostly of hyaluronic acid (HA), placed in and around the lips with a fine needle. People also call it lip injections or lip augmentation. Before any amount comes up, Paige looks at the parts of the mouth that decide how filler will read:

Existing filler should be assessed before more is added. Filler placed months or years ago can still change how your lips look and how new product behaves. It can affect:

What the plan can look like
There is no automatic answer. Depending on what Paige finds, the right step may be:
Dissolving only works on HA filler, and it is a separate medical treatment with its own swelling.

Syringe volumes are not the same across brands, so the exact number of milliliters depends on the product chosen, and Paige tells you before treatment. Neither amount is a default for first-time patients: the choice follows your anatomy, any existing filler, your goal and what the tissue can hold. Lip filler
Lip flip, often searched as "lip Botox"
In our clinic's experience a lip flip lasts about three months, though this varies. More on our lip flip treatment page and in lip flip vs lip filler.
Settling varies. This is the pattern we often see, not a promise.
Day 1. Lips often look larger than they will settle and can feel tender.
Days 2 and 3. Swelling can be more noticeable, sometimes more on one side, and small bruises may appear.
Around day 7. Much of the early swelling has often improved.
Around two weeks. We reassess the settled appearance at your included in-person review. Some firmness or residual change can last longer than two weeks.
Call us if swelling, pain or skin color is getting worse rather than better.
Common and short-lived. Swelling, bruising, tenderness, redness, mild firmness and small bumps can all happen while filler settles.
Rare but serious. The biggest risk with any dermal filler is filler entering or pressing on a blood vessel, which can cut off blood flow to the skin. Rare reported complications of dermal fillers include tissue necrosis, vision abnormalities including blindness, and stroke. The FDA lists these risks on its dermal filler safety page.
Why a licensed nurse matters. The arteries that feed the lips run close to the lip line, and their path is not the same in everyone. That is one reason lip filler is a medical procedure, not a beauty service.
Why it is urgent. Blocked blood flow can injure tissue, so a suspected problem is treated as urgent. Do not wait for your review appointment. A review of reported cases describes vision loss after filler as rare but catastrophic (Beleznay et al., Aesthetic Surgery Journal, 2019).
Warning signs to act on right away

Booking a consultation does not guarantee that filler will be placed that day.
We may recommend waiting if there is an active infection or cold sore, current inflammation, a medication or medical-history issue that needs review, recent treatment that could affect safety, existing filler that needs assessment, or an upcoming event too close for normal swelling to settle.
We may also decline treatment when the requested shape or amount does not fit the anatomy safely, or when filler cannot realistically create the result being requested.

Routes in. From Burleson and Joshua, SH 174 brings you into town on N Main St. From Keene and Alvarado, follow US 67. From Godley, take SH 171 south. From the north, the Chisholm Trail Parkway, a toll road, ends at US 67 on Cleburne's north side.

No. A half syringe is a smaller amount, not a style. A small amount in the wrong place can still look unbalanced, and a full syringe planned around your anatomy can still look soft. The look comes from the plan, not the syringe count.
There is no set first-time amount. Paige looks at what you want to change, your anatomy and any filler already there, then suggests a half or full syringe, or sometimes neither. A full syringe does not automatically mean bigger lips, and a half syringe is not automatically subtler.
Your goal, any filler already in place, the balance between your upper and lower lip, symmetry, and how much change the tissue can support. The product comes next. The amount comes last.
Tell us what you had and when. Filler that has spread past the lip border, or sits unevenly, is assessed before anything new is added. The plan may be to dissolve HA filler first, stage treatment, or leave your lips alone. Our article on filler migration explains more.
Juvederm Volbella XC and Restylane Kysse, both for patients over 21. RHA 2, which we also use, does not have a lip indication.
No. RHA 2's FDA indication is dynamic facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, in adults 22 or older. Using it in the lips is off-label, and Paige tells you before treatment if she suggests it.
No. They are different formulations with different labeling. RHA 3's U.S. labeling includes lip augmentation in adults 22 or older; RHA 2's does not. A lip indication for RHA 3 does not apply to RHA 2.
When people say lip Botox, they usually mean a lip flip. It uses a small dose of botulinum toxin, not filler, adds no volume and is an off-label cosmetic use. It is $199. Our lip flip vs lip filler guide compares the two.
It varies with the product, the amount, lip movement, your own response and past treatment. For the two products with lip indications, FDA study data showed 62% of Volbella XC patients still improved at one year and 60% of Kysse patients still responders at 48 weeks. Swelling is usually most noticeable in the first few days, and much of it often improves around a week. We reassess the settled appearance at your two-week review, and some firmness can take longer to soften.
Vascular occlusion means filler has blocked blood flow in a vessel. Signs include skin turning white, pale, gray, blue or blotchy, and pain that is severe or keeps building. Vision changes or signs of a stroke are an emergency. Call us right away on (682) 470-6080, and call 911 for vision or stroke symptoms.
Usually. Hyaluronidase breaks down HA filler and is kept at our Cleburne clinic. It is its own injection, can cause swelling, sometimes needs repeating, and does not guarantee an exact return to your pre-filler lips.
Yes. Your in-person review at about two weeks is included with your lip filler visit and is booked before you leave.
Paige checks how your lips have settled first. If adding more fits your goal, it is charged at the usual price for the amount placed. Sometimes the advice is to leave things as they are.
InjectCo treats adults 18 and older. The FDA lip indications for Volbella XC and Kysse are for patients over 21, so lip filler at 18 to 21 is outside those labeled age groups. For a patient in that range, Paige explains this off-label use before treatment, and treatment goes ahead only after that conversation.
Our aftercare asks you to wait 24 hours for both. Pressure from kissing can add to swelling while the injection points close, and alcohol can make swelling and bruising more visible. See our lip filler aftercare tips.
Yes. Patients come to our W Henderson St clinic from Burleson, Joshua, Keene and other nearby towns. From Burleson and Joshua most people drive in on SH 174, and Keene is just east along Business 67. Typical drive times for each town are in the drive-time list above.
Most people describe pressure and quick pinches. Numbing cream goes on first, and Volbella XC and Kysse contain lidocaine. If you are nervous, tell Paige and she will slow the pace.
Use the free Texas Board of Nursing license lookup. Our filler treatments are done by licensed nurse injectors working under a physician's delegation. An esthetician license does not cover injections in Texas.
