A liquid BBL is an injectable, non-surgical treatment that reshapes the hips and buttocks modestly with a collagen stimulator, Sculptra or Radiesse at our Cleburne clinic, instead of liposuction or moving your own fat. The FDA has not approved any injectable filler for buttock enhancement and currently recommends against using fillers for it.
Your nurse injects the product through a few small entry points. Numbing cream is used, and local numbing may be added. There is no general anesthesia and no surgical recovery. You may also hear it called a liquid butt lift.
Sculptra and Radiesse are approved for other uses, not the buttocks. The next section explains why that matters.
Both products we use have FDA approval, but only for particular uses elsewhere in the body. Neither Sculptra nor Radiesse is approved to make the buttocks or hips larger.
The FDA's dermal filler information page goes further. It names buttock enlargement as an unapproved use, recommends against dermal fillers or any injectable filler for body contouring and enhancement, and says it does not know the risks of those unapproved uses.
That puts every liquid BBL outside the approved labeling for these products, and the FDA has neither evaluated nor endorsed them for the buttocks. Calling Sculptra and Radiesse collagen stimulators describes how they work. It does not place them outside that warning.
None of these approvals covers the buttocks.
Research on buttock use is limited. A 2020 literature review in Dermatologic Surgery (PMID 31188150) described the published evidence as low level and called for better studies. Research of this kind is not an FDA approval. Sculptra's roughly two-year label studies evaluated facial uses, not liquid BBL, so they cannot tell you how long a buttock result lasts.
Before any filler, the FDA's consumer checklist suggests asking for and reading the patient labeling for the exact product.
When I plan a liquid BBL, I do not want the follow-up decision to depend only on how someone remembers looking before treatment. So we start with baseline photos.
At follow-up, I compare your current shape with those original photos and look at where the contour actually changed. That matters because early swelling and the product's carrier can make the area look different before the longer-term tissue response develops.
I also look at left-to-right balance, and at how the hip and buttock transitions look from the same general views we used at baseline.
If your contour is developing appropriately, adding more product is not an automatic next step. Sometimes the right decision is to wait longer. Sometimes another treatment fits your goal. And sometimes what you hoped to achieve would need surgery rather than more injectable product.
The follow-up is part of the treatment plan, not just a photo appointment.

Texas Medical Board rules treat cosmetic injections as medical acts a physician may delegate and supervise (22 TAC §169.25). Under §169.26, the injector must be trained in the technique, care before and after treatment, infection control, contraindications and complication management, and must sign a written protocol. You must be told who is treating you, a medical record must be kept, someone trained in basic life support must be on site, and a physician, PA or APRN has to be present or immediately reachable for emergencies. §169.27 requires the written order to cover screening, care, and how complications are handled and reported.

Sculptra, the product behind a Sculptra butt lift, is a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) collagen stimulator. It starts as a powder, and sterile water turns it into a thin liquid before injection. The water is absorbed within days, and the early fullness fades with it. Over the following months, the PLLA particles prompt new collagen.
Radiesse is a calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) filler. It is made of tiny particles in a gel carrier. The gel can give some visible support right away while the slower tissue response develops, but that early look is not the final result. Because Radiesse is visible on X-rays, tell any imaging team you have had it.
Neither can be dissolved with hyaluronidase. Hyaluronidase breaks down hyaluronic acid (HA) filler only, and we do not use HA filler for liquid BBL at Cleburne. Managing unwanted product, nodules, inflammation or other complications with Sculptra or Radiesse depends on the specific problem and can be much harder than dissolving HA filler.
Carrier fluid and swelling can create early fullness. It is not the final result.
Swelling settles, and part of that early fullness fades.
Collagen-related change builds gradually, often over roughly three to six months. Timing varies.

A surgical Brazilian butt lift is an operation that moves your own fat into the buttocks. It can create a larger change than any injectable.
It also carries serious, documented risk. In an August 18, 2022 joint safety statement, ASPS, The Plastic Surgery Foundation, The Aesthetic Society and the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation described deaths from fat embolism in gluteal fat grafting. They supported measures such as injecting fat only into the subcutaneous layer, above the gluteal fascia, and using real-time ultrasound to track the cannula. A liquid BBL involves no fat grafting, but it has its own risks, set out below. Neither option is the safe choice by default.

No single option suits every body. We do not offer surgery at InjectCo, and if an operation is what your goal needs, you will hear that from us.
Liquid BBL fits a goal of moderate contour change. At your assessment, Paige looks at your goal, your anatomy (including hip dips and side-to-side balance), your medical and medication history, product-specific contraindications, active infection, scarring history, and whether an injectable can realistically meet your expectations. Tell her about any earlier filler, silicone, biostimulator, permanent filler or unknown injection in the area, including treatment done abroad. Previously injected material needs to be assessed before any new product is considered.
Sculptra's contraindications. Its FDA labeling says Sculptra should not be used in people with:
Radiesse has its own labeling and its own list, which Paige reviews separately.
Medicines and supplements. Tell Paige about prescription and over-the-counter medicines and supplements that can affect bleeding or bruising. Do not stop a prescribed medicine unless the clinician who prescribed it tells you to.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding. The FDA notes that filler safety is unknown during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tell Paige, and plan the timing together.

We do not quote facial study complication rates as liquid BBL rates. The FDA says the risks of unapproved filler uses are unknown, and its recommendation against injectable filler for buttock enhancement is not limited to silicone or unlicensed injectors.
Contact us at once about sudden, severe or unusual pain, or skin that looks white, gray or blue. Slurred speech, one-sided weakness or other stroke symptoms mean emergency care, immediately.
Injectable silicone is not FDA approved for any aesthetic procedure. The FDA's filler safety information links silicone injections to long-term pain, infections, scarring and disfigurement, embolism, stroke and death. Treat these as warning signs:
Sealed, named packaging is a basic check, not proof that a treatment is safe. For a Cleburne liquid BBL, we use only Sculptra or Radiesse.

“Butt shots” and “butt injections” are loose terms. They often mean silicone, hydrogel or an unidentified substance injected by someone without a medical license, sometimes at a home or hotel. The FDA links silicone injections to infection, embolism and death. In Cleburne, Paige uses only Sculptra or Radiesse from sealed, named packaging, with physician oversight. That buttock use is still off-label.
