When we assess lips, we do not only look at a still photo. We look at your lips at rest, while you talk, and when you smile.
A border that looks subtle at rest can become much more noticeable once your mouth moves. An asymmetry may only show when the upper lip lifts. And someone who thinks they need more volume may really be asking for better definition, or a better balance between the upper and lower lip.
We also pay attention to any previous filler and how the tissue is already moving around it. That is why we decide on the amount after the assessment, not before. Sometimes a half syringe is enough. Sometimes a full syringe makes more sense. And sometimes the right answer is to wait, dissolve older hyaluronic acid filler first, use a different treatment, or leave your lips alone.
The goal is not lips that only look good in a still photo. They should still make sense when you talk and smile.

Lip filler, sometimes called lip injections or lip augmentation, is a hyaluronic acid gel placed in the lips to restore or add volume, refine the shape or improve balance. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule the body already makes, which is why hyaluronic acid filler can be broken down with an enzyme if needed.
Before choosing an amount, we look at four parts of the mouth:
At rest, talking and smiling
Your lips are highly mobile, and how long filler lasts varies with the formulation, the amount placed, your individual response and your treatment history. Your nurse discusses the expected range for the specific product chosen. Further treatment is based on reassessment rather than an automatic calendar schedule.
If the change you want is small, a half syringe can be enough. If you want a bigger change, or your anatomy needs more product to look balanced, a full syringe may fit better. What matters most is any earlier filler, your symmetry and how much the tissue can comfortably hold, not whether this is your first visit.

How long a lip flip lasts is a separate question from how long filler lasts, and your nurse explains both. See lip flip in Argyle.

Everyone heals a little differently. This is the pattern we commonly see at our clinic, not a fixed timeline.
First day. Lips often look larger than the eventual result and can feel tight.
Days two and three. Swelling often peaks around here, sometimes unevenly, and a bruise or two can appear.
End of the first week. Many patients see much of the swelling go down and the shape start to show.
Around two weeks. We commonly reassess at this point, once much of the early swelling has settled. Some firmness or minor swelling can take longer. Every lip filler patient at InjectCo Argyle has an included in-person two-week review; additional filler, if you choose it, is charged separately.
Contact us if swelling, pain or color change is getting worse instead of better.
What most people notice afterward is temporary: swelling, bruising, tenderness, redness, some firmness or discomfort, and small lumps or unevenness while the filler settles.
The most serious risk. The most serious dermal filler complication is unintended injection into a blood vessel. This can interrupt blood supply and cause tissue injury. Rare reported complications from dermal fillers include tissue necrosis, vision abnormalities including blindness, and stroke. The FDA describes these risks in its dermal filler safety information.
Why anatomy matters. The lips have their own blood supply running close to the lip border, and its path varies from person to person. That is part of why lip filler is a medical procedure performed by licensed nurses, not a beauty service.

Temporary swelling, tenderness and bruising can occur after lip filler. Contact InjectCo on (940) 298-1358 if pain, swelling, asymmetry, firmness or skin-color change is getting worse rather than better, or does not match the instructions you were given.
Sudden visual symptoms, neurologic symptoms or severe unusual pain require urgent medical evaluation.
Medical concern or cosmetic preference? A possible complication is handled as a medical issue first. A result you simply want to adjust, such as a little more fullness on one side, is a cosmetic conversation for your included two-week review. Additional filler is charged separately.
Can hyaluronic acid lip filler be dissolved?
Often. Hyaluronidase, which our Argyle clinic keeps on site, is an enzyme that can reduce or break down hyaluronic acid filler when there is a clinical reason to use it. It works differently from an eraser:

No. RHA 2's FDA approval covers moderate to severe dynamic facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, in adults 22 and older. Our Argyle team also uses it in the lips, and that use is off-label. Your nurse tells you before treatment when an off-label use is being suggested.
Of the products we stock, Juvederm Volbella XC and Restylane Kysse both have FDA-approved lip augmentation indications for adults over 21. An approval covers the product's labeled use, not every technique or amount.
A half syringe suits a smaller change in shape or volume; a full syringe may suit a bigger change or anatomy that needs more product. Previous filler and symmetry matter more than whether it is your first visit. Half: $399. Full: $699.
Often, yes. Thin lips usually need a plan built around shape and border as much as volume, and the amount depends on how much the tissue can comfortably hold, which your nurse checks at your assessment. It can. Lips stretch when you talk and lift when you smile, so a border or an asymmetry can look different in motion than at rest. That is why we assess your lips at rest, while you talk and when you smile before choosing an amount.
Most people feel pressure and quick pinches rather than lasting pain. Topical numbing is applied for 15 to 20 minutes first, and Volbella XC and Kysse both contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic, which helps during the injections. Tell your nurse if you are anxious about discomfort so the pace can be adjusted.
Lip filler is a hyaluronic acid gel that adds or restores volume and definition. A lip flip uses a botulinum toxin, an off-label use in this area, to temporarily change how the muscle above the upper lip moves. It adds no volume and is priced separately at $199.
No. A lip lift is a surgical procedure that removes a small strip of skin below the nose to shorten the space above the upper lip. InjectCo does not perform surgery. The nonsurgical options here are lip filler, which adds volume or definition, and a lip flip, which uses a neurotoxin so a little more of the upper lip shows when you smile.
It varies. In the pattern we commonly see, swelling often peaks around days two and three and much of it settles by the end of the first week. We reassess at your included two-week review, and some firmness or minor swelling can take longer.
We suggest waiting 24 hours. Pressure on freshly treated lips can add to swelling and tenderness, and the injection points need time to close. We suggest skipping alcohol for the first 24 hours, since it can make swelling and bruising more noticeable. If you are getting lip filler before a celebration, book at least two weeks ahead so your lips have time to settle.

It is when filler is unintentionally placed into, or presses on, a blood vessel and interrupts blood supply. It is rare but serious and can cause tissue injury; reported complications from dermal fillers include tissue necrosis, vision loss and stroke. Warning signs include blanching, dusky or blue skin, and unusual pain.
Usually, if it is hyaluronic acid filler. Our Argyle clinic keeps hyaluronidase on site, an enzyme that can break down HA filler when clinically appropriate. Expect another injection and possible swelling, and know that a second treatment is sometimes needed.
Every lip filler patient at InjectCo Argyle has an included in-person review at about two weeks. It lets us check how your lips have settled and how they move. Any additional filler you choose is charged separately.
Use the Texas Board of Nursing license verification, which is free. At InjectCo, filler is placed only by licensed nurse injectors under physician delegation and oversight; an esthetician license does not cover injectable treatments.
InjectCo treats adults 18 and over only. Volbella XC and Kysse are FDA-labeled for patients over 21, and your nurse talks through what that means for you at the assessment.
