One of the most important decisions we make in laser hair removal is knowing when not to fire the laser.
Before we choose a wavelength or setting, we look at your skin tone, the color and thickness of the hair, the treatment area, recent sun exposure, previous pigment changes, and any medications or skin products that may make your skin more sensitive to light.
If someone comes in with a fresh tan, irritated skin, an active skin condition, or something in their history that makes us concerned about how the skin will respond, we would rather reschedule the treatment than push ahead that day.
We also do not choose the laser setting from skin tone alone. Two patients with the same Fitzpatrick type can have different hair density, hair thickness, treatment history, sun exposure, and skin response. That is why the consultation and test patch matter.
Our goal is not to use the strongest setting possible. It is to use an appropriate wavelength and treatment plan for the patient’s skin and hair while reducing unnecessary risk.

The GentleMax Pro by Candela carries two wavelengths in one device, which is what lets a single system treat the full Fitzpatrick range. Your nurse selects the wavelength after assessing your skin, not before it. Wavelength is only the first setting. Fluence is the energy delivered per pulse. That, the pulse duration and the spot size are all matched to how coarse and dense your hair is, and to how your skin responds. That is the part a trained operator adjusts, and it is why the same device gives different results in different hands.
Laser hair removal works through selective photothermolysis. The laser energy is absorbed by pigment associated with the hair and converted into heat, with the goal of damaging structures involved in future hair growth while limiting unnecessary injury to surrounding skin.
That balance is why wavelength, pulse duration, energy, cooling, hair characteristics, skin tone and recent sun exposure all matter. Hair is also most responsive during the active growth phase, which is why treatments are performed as a series rather than one appointment.
Wavelength is only one part of a laser treatment. Fluence describes the amount of energy delivered to the treatment area. Pulse duration controls how quickly that energy is delivered, and spot size affects how the laser energy reaches the targeted tissue.
Those variables are considered together with skin tone, hair thickness, hair density, treatment area and the patient’s response. That is why our nurses do not use one default setting for everyone.

The practical difference shows up in the cases that are not straightforward. Those are deeper skin tones, recent sun exposure, a history of pigment change, hormonal conditions affecting hair growth, and medication that raises light sensitivity. Those need someone who can recognize the risk, adjust the setting, and decline treatment on the day if your skin is not in the right state.

Laser hair removal at InjectCo Waxahachie starts at $150 per session, and underarm and Brazilian are $275 per session. The $150 is the entry point for smaller areas, not a flat rate for every zone. Eight-session packages are available for every treatment area, and a package costs less per session than paying visit by visit. What you pay depends on three things. The size of the area, how coarse and dense your hair is, and how many sessions your skin and hair need. You get the full number in writing at your assessment, before anything is booked.
Many plans are built around roughly six to eight sessions, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart on the face and 6 to 8 weeks on the body, but the number varies with treatment area, hair growth cycle, hair color and thickness, skin type, hormonal factors and individual response. Hair moves through three phases: anagen, the active growth phase, then catagen, a short transition, then telogen, a resting phase before the hair sheds. The laser only disables a follicle during anagen, when the follicle is still attached and full of the pigment the light targets. Your hairs are never all in anagen at once, and the share that is varies by body area. That is why one session cannot finish the job, and why sessions are spaced out. Areas influenced by hormones, such as the chin, upper lip and bikini line, often need 1 or 2 more. Your nurse gives you a specific estimate at your assessment. Individual results vary.
The FDA terminology used for laser devices is permanent hair reduction, not a guarantee that every treated hair will disappear forever. Permanent hair reduction means a long-term, stable reduction in the number of hairs that regrow after a completed treatment series.
That is why we tell Waxahachie patients to expect a series rather than a one-time treatment. Some follicles are not in the treatable growth phase during each visit, and hormonal changes can also cause new or renewed growth later.
Most InjectCo patients are planned for roughly six to eight sessions based on their skin, hair and treatment area, and occasional maintenance may be appropriate after the initial series. Individual results vary.
Yes, with the correct wavelength. The 755nm Alexandrite works best on Fitzpatrick I to III because it is strongly absorbed by melanin. The 1064nm Nd:YAG treats Fitzpatrick IV to VI safely because it bypasses surface melanin to reach the follicle. Older single-wavelength lasers were unsafe on deeper skin for exactly this reason. Your skin assessment determines which wavelength is used. Very light, red or gray hair responds poorly on any skin tone, because there is little pigment for the laser to target.
Most patients describe it as a hot elastic band snap. The GentleMax Pro fires a burst of cryogen immediately before each pulse, which takes the edge off considerably. Most people find it more comfortable than waxing. Coarser hair and sensitive areas such as the bikini line are less comfortable than legs or arms.
Shave the treatment area 24 to 48 hours before. Do not wax, pluck or thread for four weeks beforehand, because the laser needs the root to still be there. Avoid sun exposure and self-tanner for two weeks. Arrive with clean skin and no lotion, deodorant or makeup on the area. Tell your nurse about any medication you take, because some raise light sensitivity.

Yes. Red Oak is about 14 minutes via I-35E, Midlothian about 16 minutes on US-287, and Ennis about 19 minutes. We also see patients from Ovilla and Pecan Hill, both about 16 minutes, Oak Leaf about 17 minutes, and Palmer about 18 minutes.
Usually not on freshly tanned skin. A new tan carries extra pigment that absorbs laser energy meant for the follicle, which can cause hot spots, irritation or burns. The same applies to self-tanner. Laser is also not suitable directly over tattoos, active infections or open lesions. This is what the skin assessment and test patch are for. Your nurse will reschedule rather than treat skin that is not in the right state.

Same-day laser assessment appointments may be available, and your treatment sessions are scheduled after that assessment. Waiting for the test patch is part of how we reduce avoidable risk.

Laser hair removal at InjectCo Waxahachie is performed by a licensed registered nurse using the GentleMax Pro. The FDA term for this treatment is permanent hair reduction. That means a lasting decrease in the number of hairs that regrow, not the removal of every hair forever. Most patients need a series of sessions, and occasional maintenance is normal.
Laser hair removal is not appropriate for everyone. Tell your nurse about prescription medications, over-the-counter medications and topical products before treatment. Some medications can increase light sensitivity or change how your skin responds to laser treatment, and treatment may need to be postponed. Also tell your provider if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a history of keloid scarring, active infection, recent sun exposure, or tanning in the treatment area.
Pigment changes and burns remain possible adverse effects, which is why recent tanning, skin history, wavelength selection and treatment parameters are assessed before treatment.
Common temporary effects include redness, mild swelling around the follicle, and a sensation during treatment that many patients compare to a rubber band snap. These usually settle within a few hours. Blistering and changes in skin pigment are uncommon but possible, particularly on recently tanned skin.

Laser hair removal is not something we automatically perform just because an appointment is booked.
Your nurse may recommend postponing treatment if the skin has recently been tanned or burned, if there is active irritation or infection in the treatment area, or if something in your medication or medical history raises concern about light sensitivity or healing. Laser also should not be fired directly over tattoos.
Pregnancy, medical history, hormonal conditions, previous pigment changes and certain medications should be discussed during the assessment so the nurse can determine whether treatment is appropriate. If we think the skin is not ready, we would rather reschedule the session than increase the risk unnecessarily.
