What Is Lip Filler? What Dallas Patients Should Know First

Lip filler is a hyaluronic acid gel placed in and around the lips to restore volume, define the border, or correct asymmetry. You will also see it called lip injections or lip augmentation, and they all describe the same treatment. It is not permanent, and it can be dissolved if you change your mind. Most patients need half a syringe to one full syringe, results are visible immediately, and swelling settles within about two weeks.

Lip filler is not the same treatment as a lip flip, even though the two are often confused. Filler adds volume or structure using a gel placed under the skin. A lip flip uses a small amount of neurotoxin to change how the upper lip sits, without adding any volume at all. Which one fits your goals, or whether you need both, is usually clear within the first few minutes of your assessment.

Meet Your Lip Filler Injector in Dallas, TX

Shelby, PA-C, is the clinical aesthetic injector Dallas patients meet when they book lip filler at the N Carroll Ave clinic. She is a Physician Assistant who came to aesthetics from cosmetic plastic surgery, holds a Master of Physician Assistant Studies, and carries a Medical Aesthetic Injector Certification through the American Academy of Facial Esthetics.

She designs and places every lip treatment herself, under physician oversight. That matters more in lips than almost anywhere else on the face, because the difference between a result that reads as your own mouth and one that reads as work is a few millimeters of placement.

TREATMENT AREAS

The Lip Techniques We Use, and When Each One Applies

Overfilled lips are almost never a volume problem. They are a placement problem. These are the six approaches your injector chooses between, and the case each one actually solves.

01

Border definition

Product goes along the vermillion border, the line where your lip meets the surrounding skin. This restores an edge that has softened with age or was never sharply defined. It adds shape without adding size, and it is often the right call for a patient who feels undefined rather than small.

02

Body hydration

Small amounts of filler go into the body of the lip for fullness. This is what most people picture when they think of lip filler, and it is often not what solves the concern that brought them in. A patient who wants definition rather than size usually needs border work instead, or both together.

03

Russian technique

Filler is placed vertically rather than horizontally, building height instead of pushing the lip forward. It suits a flat upper lip that needs lift more than projection, and it tends to produce a more structured shape than body hydration alone.

04

Lip flip

Not filler at all. A few units of neurotoxin roll the upper lip outward, which often suits a gummy smile or a thin upper lip that needs visibility rather than volume. Because it works on movement, results last weeks rather than months.

05

Corner support

A small amount of product goes at the oral commissures, the corners of the mouth. This suits a mouth that turns down at rest, since it lifts the corners instead of adding volume to the center of the lip.

06

Philtrum and cupid's bow

Structural work along the center of the upper lip. At the right scale it reads as natural, closer to how the feature looked years earlier. At the wrong scale it is one of the more obvious signs a lip has been treated, which is why it is usually the last adjustment in a plan rather than the first.
PRODUCT OPTIONS

Juvederm, Restylane and RHA: Which Lip Filler Is Right for You?

Three FDA-approved hyaluronic acid families. Your injector matches the product to your lip and your goal, not the other way round.
JUVEDERM

Soft, immediate volume

The Juvederm family includes Volbella for subtle definition and fine lip lines, and Ultra XC for patients who want more noticeable fullness. Both are smooth gels that integrate softly, which is why they are a common first choice for a patient who has never had lip filler before.
RESTYLANE

Structure and definition

Restylane Kysse was designed specifically for lips, with flexibility built in so the lip still moves naturally when you speak and smile. Restylane Silk is the finer option for border work and fine lines around the mouth. This family holds its shape a little more firmly than Juvederm.
RHA COLLECTION

Movement that looks natural

The RHA collection is manufactured to stay pliable in areas that move constantly, which describes the lips better than almost any other treatment area. It is often the answer for a patient whose main worry is that filler will look obvious the moment they start talking.
If you are not sure which option suits your goals, your injector walks you through each one at your assessment and explains why one fits your lip better than the others.
Your injector walks you through every option. No pressure to decide on the spot.

Not Sure How Much You Need?

Most Dallas patients want a number before they walk in. The honest answer is that half a syringe suits a lot of first-time lip patients, and a full syringe suits people correcting more volume loss. Your assessment sets the actual plan.

Lips in Proportion: When the Answer Is Not More Lip

Lips do not exist on their own. A lip that looks too big for a face is sometimes a lip that is simply proportionate to a recessed chin or a soft jawline, and adding another syringe does not fix that mismatch. It adds more of the thing that already looks out of balance.

Chin projection and jawline definition change how lips read, sometimes more than another syringe in the lips would. If your injector recommends treating the chin instead of adding more to your lips, that is worth hearing, even though it is not the answer most lip filler pages are built to give you.

YOUR VISIT

What to Expect at Your InjectCo Dallas Appointment

Your appointment starts with a design conversation and a plan, not a product menu. Here is the whole sequence.

1

Design and plan

Your injector maps your lip shape at rest and in motion, and looks at the rest of your face, before choosing a technique.

2

Numbing

A numbing agent goes on for about 20 minutes so the injection stays comfortable.

3

Treatment

The injection itself takes about 20 to 30 minutes in a private suite, not an open floor.

4

Review at two weeks

Your injector checks the settled result and discusses whether any adjustment makes sense.

Simple aftercare

  • Ice the area the first evening
  • Sleep slightly elevated for the first night
  • Skip strenuous exercise for 24 hours
Day one is not your result. That is the single most useful thing to know before you book, and the commonest reason for a worried follow-up call.

Botox in Dallas softens expression lines on the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes. It is the treatment most often booked alongside lip filler.

Full facial balancing treats the chin, jawline and cheeks together. It is the right call when lips alone will not fix the proportion you are actually seeing.

Kybella dissolves fat under the chin, sharpening the line between jaw and neck without an operating room.

Dermal fillers restore volume in the cheeks, chin and jawline, using the same hyaluronic acid families used in lips.

A lip flip uses a few units of neurotoxin to roll the upper lip outward, with no filler at all. It is $199 per treatment and often the better first step for a gummy smile.

Frequently Asked

Frequently Asked Questions About Lip Filler in Dallas, TX

Lip filler at the Dallas clinic is $699 for a full syringe and $399 for a half syringe. Most first-time patients need half to one syringe depending on their goals. A lip flip is priced separately at $199 per treatment, because it uses neurotoxin rather than filler. The exact number for your plan depends on how much correction you are starting from and whether the border, the body of the lip, or both need attention.

The clinic is at 2520 N Carroll Ave, Dallas, TX 75204, in the Cityplace area of Old East Dallas just off Belmont Avenue. Driving, take US-75 and exit at Haskell Avenue or Lemmon Avenue, then head east about a quarter mile. By rail, Cityplace/Uptown Station is roughly half a mile away on the Red, Blue and Orange lines. Uptown and West Village sit about a mile west, across Central Expressway.

Shelby, PA-C, is the clinical aesthetic injector at this location, and she designs and places every lip treatment herself under physician oversight. She is a Physician Assistant who came to aesthetics from cosmetic plastic surgery, not a technician working from a fixed menu of sizes. That background is part of why the plan starts with your existing shape rather than a standard amount.

Yes. The clinic sits just east of Uptown across Central Expressway, and Knox-Henderson is about 1.3 miles north, so both are common starting points for patients booking here. Lower Greenville, Old East Dallas, Swiss Avenue, Bryan Place and Highland Park all sit within roughly two miles as well.

Yes, many patients combine the two in a single visit. A lip flip addresses movement in the upper lip while filler adds volume or structure, so your injector can treat both in one appointment if your assessment points to both being useful. If a flip is all you need, our lip flip page for Dallas covers that treatment on its own.

Results typically last six to twelve months, though the exact timeline depends on the product used and how quickly your body metabolizes it. Lips move more than most other treated areas, which is part of why filler here tends to fade faster than filler placed in the cheeks or jawline. Your injector can give you a more specific estimate once she sees how you respond to your first treatment.

Most patients describe pressure and brief pinpricks rather than significant pain, and most lip fillers already contain lidocaine to help with comfort during the injection. A numbing agent is applied beforehand for about 20 minutes. Lips are a sensitive area, so some discomfort is normal, but it is typically brief.

Yes. Lip filler is made from hyaluronic acid, which can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if you do not like the result or want to start over. This is one of the reasons hyaluronic acid fillers are considered a safer starting point than permanent options. Dissolving is a separate, quick appointment rather than something that happens automatically.

Lips are noticeably full and sometimes uneven on day one, and that is not your final result. Swelling typically peaks between days two and three, then settles into the actual result by around day fourteen. Most visible swelling is gone well before that two-week mark, but the last of the settling is what your injector checks at your follow-up.

Obvious lip filler usually comes from adding volume to the body of the lip without addressing the border, or without checking the proportion of the rest of the face first. Working with an injector who assesses your lips at rest and in motion, rather than defaulting to a standard amount, is what keeps a result looking like your own lips. Often the answer to a more natural result is less product placed more precisely, not more filler.

Lips You Recognize, Designed Before They Are Injected

The goal was never bigger lips. It was lips that still look like they belong to you, with what was actually missing put back. That is what a design plan settles before anyone picks up a syringe: whether you need more volume, better definition, or neither.

Important Safety Information

Lip fillers are prescription medical devices. Treatments at InjectCo Dallas are performed by a licensed medical injector under the supervision of our medical director, Dr. Josh Allen, D.O.

Placing lip filler is regulated in Texas as the practice of medicine rather than a beauty service. A Texas-licensed physician delegates the injection under a written protocol, with the required evaluation and physician supervision in place first.

Common temporary effects include swelling, bruising, tenderness, lumps and asymmetry. Rare but serious risks include injection into a blood vessel. Lips are a higher-risk area for this, which is why placement by a trained clinician with dissolving agent on site matters. Results vary between patients. Discuss your full medical history with your clinician. See the FDA information on dermal fillers.
