Which Semaglutide is Best for Weight Loss?

Table Of Contents

Weight loss can be a tough nut to crack, and with the help of medication like semaglutide, you can reduce the weight to a significant chance. The semaglutide for weight loss is approved only for the brand Wegovy; however, other brands like Ozempic are also popular. The dosage of semaglutide is given primarily to type-2 diabetic patients, but the weight loss benefits attracted the attention of researchers, and hence we got a medication for weight loss. It is important to know which semaglutide is best for weight loss. Well, it depends on a certain factor. Let’s learn more about it.

Difference Between Wegovy and Ozempic: Which Semaglutide Is Best For Weight Loss?

If you are targeting to shed some weight with medical intervention, then semaglutide must not be new to you. By mimicking the naturally occurring hormone GLP-1,  it reduces the craving for food intake by slowing down the digestion process and also regulates blood sugar levels. Both the brands, Ozempic and Wegovy, are famous for weight loss; however, there is some difference, which can be a decisive factor.

1. Approved Medication

Both medications were made for type-2 diabetic patients and also showed effective results in reducing weight. However, only Wegonvy is approved for weight loss management, while Ozempic is not.

2. Dosage

Wegovy and Ozempic are both initially given at a lower dosage, with the maximum of 2.4 mg in the case of Wegovy and 1 mg in the case of Ozempic based on the overall health and weight condition of the patient.

3. Effective on Weight Loss

The studies have found that the dosage of Wegovy is more effective on weight loss than Ozempic. Wegovy showed 15% weight loss in adults, whereas Ozempic showed 6 to 7%. This makes Wegovy a popular choice in weight management solutions.

4. Side Effects

Both the medications have similar side effects like nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting. Consult your healthcare provider to understand the effects better and learn more about the complications of the medication beforehand.

5. Long-Term Effects

Both medications show long-term effects; however, they must be backed up with a proper diet and exercise regime to have a long-lasting effect.

How To Choose Semaglutide?

The decision solely lies on the individual health conditions, and that can be checked up by a healthcare provider. As the dosage of semaglutide can’t be taken without a prescription, you need to undergo a medical health checkup. If your doctor finds that your BMI is more than 30 and you have any chronic weight-related diseases, then you can get the prescription of the semaglutide. Here are some common factors that are considered while deciding on semaglutide:

  1. If your main focus is only weight loss and not type 2 diabetes, then Wegovy is a good option.
  2. People who want to control blood sugar levels along with weight loss can opt for Ozempic.
  3. How much side effects your body can tolerate depends on the overall health condition. And thus it becomes a factor whether you must get a semaglutide dosage or not.

Conclusion

Semaglutide came into the market for type-2 diabetic patients, but its weight loss benefits made it popular for weight management doses too. The brand name Wegovy is approved to take it as a weight loss medication; however, ozempic is also prescribed to people struggling with weight loss. While both types have similar side effects, they do differ in dosage and show an effect on weight loss. As semaglutide cannot be taken without prescription, you must get a full health checkup done by the doctor to decide whether you should take semaglutide or not.

After completing her Bachelor's degree at Texas Christian University, Kiara realized just how much the aesthetic medicine industry was missing, wishing it was more focused on ethical decision-making and building relationships. Kiara’s dream was to create an atmosphere for her patients where they feel loved, empowered, and comfortable. She believes in a “lead to serve” mentality, hoping to create a more personal connection with both her patients and team alike. Kiara curated a team of 13 professionals across eight clinics, six of which are in DFW, one in Houston, and one in Austin.
Kiara loves nothing more than creating a collaborating, educational approach with her team, and thrives on personal and professional growth opportunities. She hopes that her patients feel heard and encouraged at every InjectCo visit and that they are truly excited about their personalized and well-designed aesthetic treatment plan. This love for education and safety in the industry led her to later found Texas Academy of Medical Aesthetics, an accredited training program that specializes in a 100+ hour aesthetic injector internship where students are able to train and shadow at all eight of InjectCo’s clinics.

Kiara’s patients recognize her and the entire InjectCo team as highly skilled and extremely thorough clinicians. She hopes to continue being a knowledgeable and approachable resource for clinical injectors across the country who are hoping to grow and scale their aesthetic business.
