Kybella Double Chin Treatment - The Woodlands
Submental fat—also known as the dreaded double chin—is a normal anatomical feature that some people may have or develop throughout their lifetime. However, many people do not like the look a double chin gives them, and may seek out cosmetic procedures to address it. Before the last decade or so, the only option was chin liposuction—which while perfectly viable and effective option—is not ideal for all patients. Thankfully, Kybella The Woodlands uses deoxycholic acid to help break down fat in small, targeted area such as under the chin.
Deoxycholic acid is a bile acid that is found naturally in our bodies and helps break down fat in food. When injected precisely and in the right concentration and dose, deoxycholic acid—more commonly known under the brand name Kybella—offers a non-surgical and non-invasive way to get rid of unwanted submental fat. The acid slowly breaks down fat in the injected area. Patients generally need more than one session to see their desired results.

Who is Kybella For? - Good Candidates
As a minimally invasive procedure, Kybella treatment offers double chin treatment to a wider pool of candidates than surgery. With that said, there are still risks associated with the injections and contraindications like with all medically-based procedures. Ideal candidates will tend to share traits:
- Not currently pregnant
- Non-smoker
- Does not have an active infection in the area
- No recent or major previous surgeries or procedures in the area that could interact with Kybella treatment
- Have all known, major medical conditions under control
- Are not taking immune-suppressing drugs or undergoing cancer treatment
- Have realistic expectations and a good understanding of the procedure
- Do not have surgery planned on the face or neck within the near future
While not having all of these traits is not necessarily an immediate disqualifier for Kybella treatment, it is important to discuss it with your provider to understand the possibility of increased risk, complications, or adverse reactions that may occur due to these various factors.
Kybella Injection Process
After an initial consultation where your provider determines you are a good candidate for treatment, patients can often undergo injections the same day or within a few days. Firstly, numbing agents are available, but not always necessary. You can discuss if numbing cream may be ideal for you with your provider. If applied, it may add about ten to twenty minutes to the appointment.
Your provider will then use a stencil to map out the injection sites for your Kybella treatment The Woodlands. Then, using small and quick injections across the entire expanse of the chin, they will administer the medication subcutaneously (just below the skin). Patients may feel a slight burning sensation and general discomfort from the injections. These are usually short-lived.
The entire process takes under twenty minutes and sometimes as little as ten minutes. It is possible to have the procedure performed on your lunch break.
Before & After - Kybella Results
Kybella results will vary based on the amount of fat present and the number of treatments administered. In general, patients notice a visible difference in the appearance of their chin within two to three injection sessions. However, some patients may see a difference in as little as one session if they had only a small amount of submental fat. For those with more substantial fat underneath the chin, it may take more than three sessions.
Based on your anatomy and contributing factors to healing, your provider can provide a more accurate timeline at your appointments.
How Long Do Kybella Results Last?
Kybella breaks down and destroys fat cells. Once eliminated, fat cells cannot return. Therefore, the results are permanent. With that said, patients can still cause the remaining fat cells to expand and so it is important to continue a healthy diet and lifestyle.
How Many Kybella Treatments Will I Need?
This will depend on many factors. The average number of Kybella treatments ranges between two to three, but could go higher depending on the patient’s healing, anatomy, and lifestyle.
Will I Experience Side Effects with Kybella?
Kybella can cause some minor side effects. While they are generally not worrisome and go away on their own, discuss with your provider if you have questions about Kybella side effects. Possible side effects include:
- Bruising
- Swelling
- Redness
- Headache
- Pain
- Numbness
- Itchiness
