Are You Too Young For Botox And Fillers?

Are You Too Young For Botox And Fillers
Posted in
While many people associate Botox injections with lines and wrinkles, Botox has many benefits in addition to cosmetic improvements. Yes, Botox can create smoother, younger-looking skin. It can also prevent future wrinkles and other signs of facial aging. Injectors may recommend Botox as a preventative measure against future wrinkles and lines. Dermal fillers can also help combat signs of aging. Volume loss is common as skin ages and dermal fillers are one of the most effective minimally invasive solutions to this problem. What if you notice slight lines that may turn into deep wrinkles down the road? At what age can you start Botox injections as a preventative method? What about dermal fillers? Is there an age limit for either of these cosmetic treatments?

What Age Do You Have To Be To Get Botox And Dermal Fillers?

While you only need to be 18 to have Botox and dermal filler injections, most people this young rarely need Botox–unless it’s to help with a medical condition. Some people are prone to wrinkles and volume loss at a young age. If you’re in your mid-20s, have a family history of facial aging, and have skin that loses its bounce and elasticity early on in life, you may consider Botox injections as a preventative measure.

Why Do People Get Botox And Dermal Fillers?

While there are medical reasons for Botox injections, Botox and dermal fillers are primarily cosmetic treatments. Botox relaxes the muscles underneath your skin, allowing your skin to smooth out at the surface.  Dermal fillers add a bouncy, elastic look to your skin. This is especially beneficial in areas like your cheeks, jaw, and lips–where you may lose volume as you age. Dermal fillers can even replace volume you may not have ever had in these areas.

What Age Should You Start Preventative Botox?

If you frequently scrunch your eyebrows or are concerned about developing smile lines in the near future, you can start Botox as a preventative measure. Combining Botox and dermal fillers can also create a lifted and volumized look. While most Botox and dermal filler patients are in their 30s and above, there are some people in their 20s who choose to begin these treatments for one reason or another. Botox and dermal fillers are an option for any age (as long as you’re 18 or older). Using Botox and dermal fillers at a younger age may also prevent wrinkles and some volume loss as your skin ages. Preventative use of these cosmetic treatments at a young age may mean you won’t have to stress about wrinkles or facial aging anytime soon. Starting injections at an early point means needing fewer units of Botox per session than most patients who wait to begin treatment until wrinkles are noticeable.

Are There Any Risks Of Starting Botox At An Early Age?

Other than the standard, mild risks associated with Botox and dermal fillers, there doesn’t seem to be a considerable risk to starting Botox early on in life. However, there is a complication that can occur.  One of the primary uses of our facial muscles is expression. If you limit movement in one area with Botox, you may see wrinkles form in another. For instance, if you get Botox for your forehead to prevent frown lines, you may move other muscles more frequently, like those in your cheeks and eyes, which can lead to lines near these areas. These places may then need doses of Botox as well.
